In Reminiac itself the restaurant, bar and depot de pain 'The Old Ivy' is just two minutes walk from La Maison des Hortensias (previously called La Maison Rose). The Ivy is a traditional Breton restaurant and a great place to sample the local delicacies. The menu changes all the time and offers all sorts of local specialities. The three course lunch menu is about 14 Euros including wine. On friday night there's usually a seafood special plus there's always steak and burgers etc available. Everything is perfectly prepared and served in a fantastic friendly atmosphere. Additionally, a kilometre further down the road is the village of Monteneuf which boasts a lovely bakers, general store and yet another great auberge
The Ground Floor
The front door opens up into the large airy open plan lounge and dining room. The floor is newly tiled and traditional oak beams hold up the ceiling. Generous large comfy leather settees make up the lounge area and surround the flat-screen TV which receives all the usual British -and French on request- Freeview channels including BBC, ITV and radio channels etc. To one side of the room is a pine dining table & chairs, just right for those long, leisurely lunches
The large separate kitchen is to the rear of the ground floor and has a wide roof window which lets extra light flood in from above whilst the double glass doors leading directly to the rear garden give the room an almost al-fresco feel and seem to beckon the warm Brittany sun to slip into the room
All the kitchen units are fully fitted with lots of workspace plus a washing machine, dishwasher, gas cooker and a fridge freezer
There's also a shower room with a large walk in shower and WC on the ground floor
The First Floor
Upstairs the character of the original cottage is retained - you can see the giant supporting oak beams emerging from the hardwood floor and disappearing into the ceiling. These make up the massive frame that supports the whole roof. Leading off the landing are two separate bedrooms and an upstairs toilet and hand basin The large main bedroom has a kingsize bed (160/200cm), a wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside tables
The second bedroom has two pine single beds, bedside table and a chest of drawers
The Gardens
The house faces an empty stone cottage that is never used so hardly anyone passes to the front of the gite. There are two gardens. To the front there is a small enclosed courtyard with a table and chairs -the perfect spot for catching early morning sun- whilst the rear garden is accessed directly from the kitchen and has garden furniture and BBQ with grass lawns beyond. There is off road private parking
